I am considering becoming a consecrated virgin I live in Scotland I am interested in finding out more of what is required to become one and what I need to do so

You are going to get all kinds of answers here, ranging from the helpful to the (well, let’s just say not-so-helpful).

What you really need to do is contact your parish priest or the director of vocations for your diocese. Some diocese have a special contact person for vocation as a Consecrated Virgin.

Contact your diocese. I would suggest looking at their website to see if they have a special contact. If they don’t they will certainly have information on contacting the director of vocations (or what that title might in Scotland).

thank you Fr David 96 I have a spiritual director who is my bishop and my PP is aware and I have been asked to source out more information on it and what I need to do to progress my journey forward. Was advised this might be a useful source to start my research

You’re talking to your spiritual advisor and your bishop. Great! Very helpful that they’re the same!

So then, what exactly are you asking? What kind of information are you seeking? I mean, something about the history, something about the ritual of Consecration to a Life of Virginity, can you be more specific please.

Are you maybe looking for some suggested books to read? or lives of Saints who were Consecrated Virgins?

I have been asked to write a paper on the differing forms of consecrated life to help me discern the right one for me as I feel called to serve in my own diocese or parish,

i am 57 and couldn’t respond to my calling due to caring for my mum and brother in my younger life my mum ulitmately had MND or as you might know ALS and only now am I free to answer the call . so religious orders will be out for me no one will want someone my age.

So am keen to learn what opitons of religious life or consecrated life is open to me. In addition what type of rule do they live by ,

So book suggestions would be helpful and any other information that would help me write my paper

first be a virgin, then next stay a virgin. If you are not a virgin but want to remain chaste from here on out, stay chaste from here on out. If you have desires to live the chaste life but are in a place where temptations are too prevailing and too many in number to stand up alone, then seek guidance from those that can provide you with the help you need to remain as you choose. Peer pressure is predominating everybody’s freedom to remain a virgin nowdays.
