Dear QAF,

I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and I’m looking in to becoming a monastic. Benedictine most likely. It won’t be for a while yet before I’ll be ready to devote myself mind, body and soul so I’m taking this time to educate myself as best I can to get prepared and I have some questions that I’m having a hard time finding answers to.

1st. is The Rule of Benedict available online? I’ve only found parts of it in blogs and then several books that are available for purchase but money is rather hard to come by.
2nd. What other texts, prayers and/or readings should I familiarize myself with?
3rd. The Benedictine way seems very challanging which I like and frankly need. I’m a sinner and so very weak. Any insight, ideas and/or thoughts are welcome.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration,

PAX,

Scot

Hi,

You can find the Rule of St. Benedict here:

osb.org/rb/text/toc.html

You would do well to familiarize yourself with the Liturgy of the Hours and pray them:

universalis.com/

Spend time before the Blessed Sacrament regularly if possible.

Get used to being able to wait. This is a biggie. There is a lot of waiting in monastic life. Treasure the present moment. You may write me privately if you want more. Just click on my name above.
