Hello! My husband and I are teaching a formation class for lay Carmelites. The lesson we are on teaches that “liberation theology” among contemporary theology , “seems to dialogue well with the Carmelite tradition. For example conferences of bishops, theologians and the local people (in countries such as Latin America, Africa and the Philippines) talk in terms of liberation.” My husband and I know that Pope John Paul 11 condemned liberation theology. Our understanding is that it is based in Marxism. Can you give us a good definition of Liberation theology.? Thank you. Carol Joyce
