Can you have Masses said for relatives who have died if they weren't Catholic?

I would like to have some Masses said for my Grandparents, who both have passed. My Grandmother converted to Catholicism late in her life, but I don’t know how devout she was in those beliefs. I’m pretty sure she only converted because all of her children were Catholic, and all her friends were Catholic. My Grandfather was a Methodist minister. Can I ask for Masses to be said for them knowing that they didn’t share the same beliefs in life?

You certainly may. I offer masses for non-Catholics all the time, living and dead.

As Father said, you certainly can, and you should because they may need the extra help out of Purgatory.

Just be careful about who you inform, if you have other relatives who aren’t Catholics and might not be thrilled about hearing you’re having a Mass said for Grandfather.

And be careful where you have the Mass card sent. Might be best to have parIsh send it to you

Most of my relatives on that side have become Catholic during my lifetime. I don’t think anyone would be upset. But I actually schedule the Mass intentions at our Parish, I can send the Mass card wherever. We just had a huge staff change in our Parish, and I just didn’t know who to ask.

Everyone could use prayers when they die. Ask the priest; .
