Can you help me? My dh turns 50 next week…and I really want to buy him something special. He is a very practical man, loves to cook (like at a chef level) and I had initially thought a wonderful set of pots and pans would be awesome. But, he talked this morning about wanting to see the Elton John/Billy Joel tour while they’re in town. Also, the SUPERBOWL comes to Tampa Bay this year! I don’t think I have much promise in buying any of those tickets…I’m sure they are sky high prices, if there are some left.

So…what do you think? The concert…or try to look around for SB tickets…or what? The Steelers might have a good shot in making the SB this year…so, as you know, he’s a Steelers fan. That would be like a gift from heaven for him. 😃

Look forward to your ideas. 🙂

Oh, he doesn’t really lurk here much anymore…he has been very busy with work, and so forth…so don’t worry that he’ll see this conversation. Well, I hope he doesn’t. 😊 :o

Forget SB tickets…they are going for minimum of $2k now per ticket, for so so seats…

:bigyikes: :rotfl:

I guess it depends upon whether you want his 50th birthday present to be an “event” … something memorable but there and gone… or if you want his present to be something “lasting”… something he’ll think “50th” every time he uses and enjoys.

If you want memorable event go with the concert tickets (if they are even available… and I just have to add… in the budget…)

If you want something that he’ll use for years and think “50th” then go with the pots/pans, knives, or some other chef-like thing he’ll love.

Good idea.

LOL–Yes, it is in our budget. I’m getting a small bonus this month, so did he for last year’s performance…(my larger one comes in March, but we’re paying off debts with it. You’d be proud of me, 1ke…we eat home so much more now, and I’ve given up frivolous spending, by using the ‘3 week’ rule) I think that a concert, while so fun, would be fleeting. You’re right. I thought of a receiver for our tv downstairs…the place where we live has 6 speakers built into the ceiling by the owner, for surround sound. I have a feeling he’d love that…for the superbowl, among other things! My kids agreed too…we’ll see though.

The surround sound idea is a good one too!

And way to go on the budget! You know I was just kiddin’ with you, right?

Oh I know, but every now and then …it’s good to have someone say the ‘b’ word to me. 😃 It’s been really ‘weird’ for lack of a better word, to have so much more disposable cash on hand…and to be able to make higher payments on our debt…I guess we were just wasting money before, looking back. 🤷

I am leaning towards the surround sound idea…and buying my husband the Bruce Springsteen concert (his latest) on dvd. Hey, this is sounding better and better the more I think about it!!
