Can you help me find "simple" reading for convert and a fallen away?

What would be good books for a convert and for a fallen away Catholic. They are both men that have difficulty reading wordy or detailed books. I know of Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth, but what else would give ‘simple’ history and Catholic facts?
