Can you help me understand God's will vs. our free will?

My question is… Will God’s will be done regardless of our actions that may “get in His way”?

I have recently suffered a traumatic break up in a relationship where I was engaged to be married. We both shares a true love of God and we both felt that it was God’s will that we be married. My fiance, who was adamant that God spoke to her and told her I was the man she was supposed to get married, got ‘cold feet’ and ended the engagement and relationship. If it is God’s will that we be married, will He make it happen, regardless of what we do to interfere with it?

Sincerely,

Jason

Please pray for myself, my fiance, and her daughter.

Jason,

I am sorry to hear of your broken engagement. I’ve said a prayer for the three of you that God’s will prevail. The first set of links should be helpful for understanding the choice we have in following the will of God. The second set of links should be helpful for understanding the choice we have when faced with suffering. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by these links, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
