Hi Francee,
I’m just six years behind you. The goal of marriage is union with the Lord. If both spouses have gone to heaven they are united to each other as all people in heaven are because they are united to the Lord. Heaven is not about impersonal ghosts. You certainly have not gotten such distortions from the Church. Any good we have experienced here on earth, like family life, is only a tiny image of the Source of that good who it God. Bishop Sheen used to say, “If this is the spark, what must be the flame!”
I suggest that you will get an idea of what heaven is if you spend time reflecting on all the suffering that our Blessed Lord was willing to endure because He loves us. That God would suffer and die for creatures He created out of nothing, gives us some idea of how truly awesome His love for us is. And in heaven we will be able to fully understand this and rejoice over it without end.
When people die, we tend to think that they will be missing out on what we still have. It’s really, just the opposite. Actually it seems more like we are stuck here while they are completely fulfilled because they have Him. Actually, He knows the best time for us to go home. Heaven is our home because it is all about Him!
