I was raised Catholic and have recieved all the sacraments. However, lately, I have been attending a non-denominational protestant church because i feel that i get more spiritual direction from the pastor there, listening to his sermons. It took a while to get used to since I have grown up in the Catholic church. I feel deeply discontented because i have been attending both churches. I want to settle on one, but I feel that I need to be convinced of which one that God wants me to follow. I have always felt that The Catholic Church was the original church that Jesus started but I guess I don’t have enough information to feel confident in that opinion. My question to you is; what are some good, dependable resources I can use to strengthen my knowledge about the history of the Catholic church and why this is the faith that God intended for us?

Hi,

You sound sincere and very much unaware of your own Church’s teachings. I suggest that you get a hold of Steve Ray’s book, “Crossing the Tiber.” It’s the conversion story of a staunch Baptist who, to his surprise, found the Catholic Church to be his true home. You can order it through shopcatholic.com.

There are other books I could suggest, but this one is so readable and covers so much territory. If you need others, let me know. I will remember you as I spend my daily hour before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament–something I could never do in a non-denom!
