Well, let’s start like this. I’m an average fifteen year old guy: freshmen in high school, student council, cross country. I’ve spent nine years of my life in Catholic school and I LOVED it. I’ve always considered myself having a close relationship to God. He is amazing in my eyes. But lately, I’ve been going down the drain. I’ve lost all hope. At one point in my life I completely forgot about God. The reason? I’m gay No, I’m not out. Yes, I consider myself a practicing homosexual Catholic. Oxymoron, I know. But it’s been tough. I know that God is disappointed in me yet still loves me. That’s why I’ve been confused. Part of me wants to say “Hey, I can’t go throughout life unhappy. I’m not that strong. Why has God made me this way? It’s not a “choice” like everyone says.” But the other half is saying, “This is the burden He has given me. I must take it in and offer all my suffering up as a sacrifice. Life on earth doesn’t last forever, but after death it’s for eternity. I can hold these feelings in and follow Him.” I just need guidance. I almost have no one to go to. All my friends are Christian and if they found out, they would shun me. That’s what’s sad. Christians today consider gays idiots. That’s what hurts. I would know. I recently came out to my parents hoping that they could help, but sadly all they did was yell and scream. Nothing is the same anymore. They act like I’m no longer their son. But I continue to keep my faith in God. I need Him. But I receive no help. I feel like I’ve reached my breaking point. Please help.

Hey Buddy,

The Lord has His hand on you in a very powerful way. I am edified at your faith and desire to please Him—and so are the many, many people who will read this. The fact that you are aware that it is possible to want Him more than anything—is so contrary to the pressures that our pagan culture bombards us with from all directions.

This is a link to an interview I had with a man who gave up a seven year same sex relationship because he finally realized what you already want—to be faithful to the God who loves us and that this is both desirable and possible. He has learned that it IS possible for a person with same sex attraction to put God first by living a celibate life-style and have a happy and rewarding life. Our culture doesn’t buy this. But then, our culture doesn’t understand Good Friday either—and the power of His love.

Also, at fifteen, there is still a very real possibility that you can salvage your heterosexual potential. Here is a link to Dr. Joseph Nicolosi and also a link to an organization that he founded to help people with same sex attraction.

My friend you are NOT alone. The Lord suffered and died for you because He loves you so very much. You will be fine. I will be contacting you privately. We all will be praying for you.
