Can you help me with this Communion question?

I have just recently started going to a Catholic church and I love it!
I was told that I can not receive communion by one of my friends. What do I have to do so that I can?
I was baptized when I was a baby if that has anything to do with it.

Dear friend,

I’m happy to hear that you are attending Mass and that you were baptized a Catholic. But to receive Our Lord in Holy Communion, you need to instructed on what the Eucharist is and also on how to go to Confession and on what the latter is all about.
