Morning,
I have been married for over 3.5 years and my wife is Moravian. The religion is very small and started 75 years before Luther. We married in her church and now I have come back to the Catholic faith. I started to attend mass regularly in the past 2 years and we have talked to my parish priest about validating my marriage in the Church. I miss receiving Eucharist and many times tears are running down my face when I watch Communion. Christmas was difficult.
I am just torn about staying in my marriage. My wife does not want to become Catholic. The true issue lies in my mother-in-law (MIL). For the first two years of my marriage, my wife believed everything her mother would say but not me. For instance, on my wedding day I told my MIL, “Why don’t you sit down and relax?” She KNOWS I said, “Shut the F*** up and sit down!” My wife believed her for two years that I would do something like that on my wedding day. Since then, my wife has gone to counseling and is on medication for other illness that clouded her judgement and thoguhts. The worst part about my marriage is: the trust. My MIL had three dreams where she things God told her that me or my wife would mortally wound each other. She had this on three separate dreams and told me wife and her husband. They thoguht she was crazy but she wants my wife to not be naive should the sitatution arise. I was furious. I have never hit a person in my life nor do I show violent tendancies.
I confronted her ont he phone about how deeply hurt I was and she responded that she doesn’t know me and doesn’t know my past. ??? She then wanted me to apologize for raising my voice and would not acknowledge that she was acting a bit outrageous. I can no longer attend functions with her in my presence. I can’t look her in the eyes either.
I can’t see myself with my wife nor her family for the rest of my life with unwarranted accusations like this. We have no kids and I wouldn’t want to subject my future children to this type of behavior. Can a marriage end because of these circumstances?
Blessings,
