I need your help with a particular thing that i
read about that has been bothering me constantly to no end. First let
me say that yes, i suffer from Scrupulosity/OCD and I am currently taking Zoloft 75mg. Now, this helps with the panic symptoms and nervousness but doesn’t take away the actual scary, repetitive
thoughts.
My problem lies with the recent onslaught of conspiracy theories that have attacked the faith, i.e. DaVinci Code,
etc… I love Jesus and my faith so much that i have these tremendous fears and “what-if” thoughts that somehow “what if none of it is
true?” I read an interview with this author who wrote this book called “The Jesus Papers.” You may or may not be familiar with this book or with the story that is put forth but i’ll give you a brief
synopsis of it…
…Apparently the author claims that there was a Priest at this Catholic Church in France that knew that Jesus didn’t die on the cross and that he left all of these supposed clues in some of the paintings and architecture in the Church to let others know. He states that in the Church on the 14th Station of the Cross when
they are putting Jesus into the tomb, the moon is shown in the frieze signifying that the Passover had begun and that it would be against
Jewish custom to touch a body once the Passover had begun. The author states that the Priest was trying to indicate in this Station of the
Cross that they were actually “removing” Jesus from the tomb as opposed to putting him in, thus the reason that he had a moon painted
on the frieze. I’ve read rebuttals of this stating that whoever painted the frieze just made a mistake and didn’t know actual Jewish
customs since the church is in France, they wouldn’t have been familiar with actual Jewish customs. Yes, this seems logical but the
fearful “What if” thoughts continue to bother me!!! They just won’t go away!
I don’t want to believe ANY of this nonsense but for some reason the thoughts continue to frighten me…“What if this is true?” “You have no real way of proving that it
isn’t” “What if your faith is a big lie?” I mean how do i know whether there really was a Priest that knew these things? I feel like Jesus is upset at me for even being frightened of these things and questioning “What if they’re true” Could you please help me? Thank
you so much and i’m sorry for the long email. I trust that God will help me through your response. God Bless you.
