Can you help with this apparent contradiction?

Hello guys, I just wanted to ask a question that has really been bugging me, if in the bible one of the commandments says thou shall not kill, yet lots of killing was done in the old testament because God told the Israelites to do it, he hardened the heart of pharaoh yet he killed every first son of the eqyptians, was that fair? and that is just one but many, that kind of contradicts lots of killing was done from the time of moses until the time of Jesus, that part i don’t understand

The Commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.” is addressed to us by God. WE are not to kill. HE is the author of life and has every right to take life that He has created at any time and in any way He chooses. There is no contradiction here; just a confusion about who God is.
