And that’s a good testimony of obedience.
Yes it is. One wants to do something for the very best of reasons, but when told that the Church does not allow it, they accept the authority of the Church and conform their behavior accordingly.

It’s not always easy, but it is correct and very commendable.

Again, you’re accusing ME of “thin ice” when others talk about psychosis and unworthiness to receive and we hear nothing from you?

I’m judging nothing about conscience.

But this thread is about over now that, at last, you’ve at least dropped your smoke screen and admitted what you’ve known all along - it’s an infraction. The truth is indeed liberating.

Indeed I’m not admitting anything. Read again, I used the words “may be” externally; i.e., for those who are distributing communion. I do not distribute - it doesn’t affect me.

Keep your parsing games up. Semantics is so amusing. And when you get the reply confirming what the US Bishops have already stated, I expect detailed posting from you.

It may be an external infraction of the rubrics, but not willful knowing disobedience on anyone’s part and you are not the judge of another’s conscience, right? You are treading on thin ice there.

It affects anyone who —having documentation presented that speaks of infractions—would continue to ignore said documentation.

The focus should be entirely on Jesus.

Our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are instructed NOT to say the name of the person.

It is BOTH.

The consecrated host is the Real Body & Blood of Christ.

And we become what we receive; we become the presence of Christ to all. Christ is present in three ways in the mass: in the sacrament of the altar, in the word proclaimed, and in the assembly gathered.

Read Sacrosanctum Concilium.
Something doesn’t sound right here. Which part of SC addresses this kind of consubstantiation, something the Lutherans would more easily believe?

Nothing is proven except that being a traditionalist, you are reinforcing yourself with pseudo ammunition in your dislike for EMHC’s. Note that many priests, as already mentioned in this thread, use the custom of saying a person’s name, and Sandra was told she could do so.

Let’s not go into a separate discussion of why you think EMHC’s should bow out. This too, is permitted by the Church, remember?
True, I have no love lost for Extraordinary Ministers in most cases, By and large it is an overused and much abused practice which I have learned from numerous posts on the subject has a high number of holier than thou types who take it upon themselves to attempt improving reception in some way or another, like our poster here, making it more personal and meaningful

Yes, I do remember the Church permits it. I could I ever forget when 8-10 troop up there to distribute Communion for a congregation of 30 or so… I accept it

But they need accept what they are and maybe more importantly what they are not.

It has two meanings indeed. We are declaring our belief in the doctrine of the Real Presence of Christ under the species of bread and wine, and we are declaring our promise to God that we who will receive the Body of Christ are the (mystical) body of Christ, His Church.
The catechism is not infallible and confusing at best. The Real Presence is dogma. Either one believes Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity or he doesn’t. And that’s it. If he wants to pretend it’s something else or misleads others into thinking something else or adds stuff to it, he is really playing with fire.

You can post all you want “Joysong”, but the reality remains, this issue (that is, the issue of this thread) has been addressed. Not only do rubrics addressing this exist, BUT ALSO there has been a clarification on specifics from the US Bishops. Your continued ignoring of these realities is purely to satisfy your desire to argue with people you consider “traditionalists”.

Dear Sandra,

Being fairly new here, you may not have recognized that almost all of the posters are latin mass traditionalists who have demonstrated no real love for this liturgy or the practices connected with it. They do not even respond Amen, as we do, so arguments on adding “Amen, Sandy” are fallacious.

I hope you will consider the source and stay in your sacred ministry unhindered by these uncharitable remarks. Have you ever heard the expression “killjoy?” You know this is not God’s way of correcting anyone.

The final umpire is the peace of the Holy Spirit deep within and witnessing affirmation to you … continue therefore, until such time, if it ever comes, that the Lord (or your pastor) convicts you to do differently. Nobody can tamper with that inner sanctuary of conscience but God. If this happens to be wrong, He will bring it to light in His timing. 🙂

As for how to handle those who object to the practice, there should not be a 4-page thread on such a minor issue. It seems rather simple for them to contact you and ask that you not do it.
But I doubt you’ll receive any calls.

God’s peace be with you,
Carole
Thank you for you kind post. I am aware of the position of many of the posters here, and knew I would be in for it by weighing in on the subject. However, I think a thread is fairly useless if people don’t feel free to contribute a different perspective. Just my opinion…

With some of the responses I see here on the various threads at CAF, I am given a lesson in how not to treat others, and believe it or not, I value those lessons as much as the kind example you have given me today.

(…bowing out again to avoid any temptation towards sin…)

We can now add to the catalogue of opprobria yet another charge…“Latin Mass traditionalists” are the ones who object to this liturgical abuse.

When will the slanders, presumptuous attacks, and fallacious charges cease?
  1. Unworthy to receive
  2. Psychotic
  3. Inhuman
  4. Extremist
  5. Latin Mass traditionalists

As for how to handle those who object to the practice, there should not be a 4-page thread on such a minor issue.
Disobedience is now only a minor issue? After all the lectures traditionalists have been given the last 40 years?

Japhy and Pax are correct, BobP…

This was stated clearly by Pope Benedict XVI in Sacramentum Caritatis:
  1. The “subject” of the liturgy’s intrinsic beauty is Christ himself, risen and glorified in the Holy Spirit, who includes the Church in his work. (109) Here we can recall an evocative phrase of Saint Augustine which strikingly describes this dynamic of faith proper to the Eucharist. The great Bishop of Hippo, speaking specifically of the eucharistic mystery, stresses the fact that Christ assimilates us to himself: “The bread you see on the altar, sanctified by the word of God, is the body of Christ. The chalice, or rather, what the chalice contains, sanctified by the word of God, is the blood of Christ. In these signs, Christ the Lord willed to entrust to us his body and the blood which he shed for the forgiveness of our sins. If you have received them properly, you yourselves are what you have received.”
(110) Consequently, “not only have we become Christians, we have become Christ himself.” (111) We can thus contemplate God’s mysterious work, which brings about a profound unity between ourselves and the Lord Jesus: “one should not believe that Christ is in the head but not in the body; rather he is complete in the head and in the body.”
A hard mystery for some to accept and grasp.

Incidentally, re your last post …
Nobody is able to prove disobedience and it borders on rash judgment, a more serious matter than the minor issue under discussion. 😉

Next charge from “Joysong”:

“Rash judgment”.

Would be true, were someone to be insinuating that a specific minister was guilty of disobedience when they were genuinally ignorant of the rubric.

HOWEVER, “Joysong” has spent lots of time arguing that disobedience to this rubric isn’t really disobedience. She started by trivializing all rubrics. Then she skipped through the thread like so many others, speaking of charity and compassion while slandering anyone who dared disagree with her.

As for the side issue…IRRELEVANT to this thread…of our “becoming” the Eucharist. No human being at Mass = the Real Presence. We don’t put people in monstrances or genuflect to them for a reason.

We’ve already helped one person understand the rubrics. For the sake of restoring the thread of argument, NOTHING may be altered or added to the Communion formula, INCLUDING names.

This thread is now closed. It expired from a a terminal case of arrogance complicated by a steady stream of unkindness.

No one goes through life alone;
All that we send into the lives of others
Comes back into our own.
