Can you please explain the Rapture?

How do I explain why the Church does not believe in “The Rapture” to a Protestant friend? Give me info about how this Rapture theory came into being, and dates, etc. Also, how can I refute the Biblical references she quotes that she says supports the theory, plus the 44,000 being taken up into Heaven, etc.
