Can you receive Communion before going to confesson?

I go to confession each month and sometimes more often. If a person has recently gone to confession and misses a holy day of obligation, may the person receive Communion at the next Mass if he has the intention of going to confession as soon as possible?

It depends on whether or not a mortal sin was committed by missing Mass on the holy day of obligation. If there was just reason for missing Mass on that day, no mortal sin was committed and the person is free to receive Communion. If the person deliberately skipped Mass on a holy day without just reason, a mortal sin may have been committed (depending on whether there was full knowledge and deliberate consent). If a mortal sin was committed, as a rule the person needs to go to confession first before receiving Communion.
