Can you recommend a book?

I know a young man who is incarcerated, awaiting trial for gang activity. I’d like to get him a book about the faith which might get his attention. Any recommendations? He’s 19, went to Catholic schools and is very intellegent, but has made really bad choices so far. He’s a captive audience right now and would probably read anything I send. Thanks for your help.

Talk to your local Salvation Army person, they will have some books, or will know where to get them. As well as miniature Gideon New Testaments. (Though they might have liked these for tearing out the pages and rolling cigarettes!)

I would suggest “Seven Story Mountain” by Thomas Merton – a Trappist Monk who was a convert to the faith after living a very secular life.

God Bless him and I hope there will be mitigating circumstances and I pray that the judge will show him leniency for his bad choices.

It isn’t a book but a cd from Lighthouse Catholic media titled NO TURNING BACK with personal testimony by Fr Donald Calaway. He was an athiest juvenile delinquent who became a Catholic priest.

This is also a book. The CD from Lighthouse Catholic Media is a condensed version of the story. I would also recommend this book.
