Can you recommend a good Bible study?

Hi everyone! If you’ve read my previous posts, you’ll know that I’ve been taking part in Protestant (specifically Evangelical) Bible studies simply because most of my friends are of that faith. However, I’ve run into too many things in these studies that are contrary to my faith. I’m a revert, and I was a cradle Catholic who left the church in my early twenties after making friends and attending church with “born-again” Christians. But the Holy Spirit was like a clarion call to me, calling me back to the Roman Catholic Church again and again… finally I listened, and now I’m 30 and have been back for awhile, my marriage has been convalidated in the church, both my children baptized, I love learning about my faith and have a pretty good prayer life.

I only have one friend that is also a Catholic, but she is not very strong in her faith (by her own account). I’d like to invite her to do a Bible study with me – she may say no, but I’m hoping she says yes! In that regard, do you have any Bible studies you could recommend that wouldn’t be too difficult for someone who is not very knowledgeable about the faith? Nothing too strenuous either as we both have two small children.

The two most popular Catholic Bible study series for personal use are the Navarre Bible commentary series (which is for reference & personal study) and the St. Ignatius Bible Study Series (which can also be incorporated into group use). These two Bible study sets are faithful to Catholic Tradition and are a wonderful resource to help deepen your study of Sacred Scripture. Neither takes away from the other, and you can happily benefit from both!

I personally like Navarre - they are very easy to understand.

Just like a true personal relationship with Jesus Christ must include His Church, (the Sacraments He instituted for us (I will be with you always) and His teachings (Doctrine…if you love me you will obey my commandments) so should a Catholic Bible study. So any decent Catholic Bible study imo will have references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (which itself refers to Sacred Scripture and also Sacred Tradition).

Here is an excellent Catholic Bible study…and it is free!

It doesn’t have all the books of the Bible yet but enough to keep you busy. It has OT, NT and topical studies (such as for Advent). You can print out the lessons and handouts as you go.
