Can you recommend a good resource that addresses where we got the Bible?

I have a 20-year-old brother who, although raised Catholic, is confused about his thoughts on theology. Sometimes we get into discussions about the validity of the Bible. Can you recommend a resource or two that addresses this, i.e. the history behind the Bible, how we discovered and validated the documents themselves, how we know or speculate who the authors are, etc?
