This is the one of the few advantages to getting older. Starts around 40. You reach a point on this planet, where you’ve lived long enough, and assuming you received or obtained on your a good education in a wide range of political ideas, theories, history, Greek philosophy, etc., where you can see through a lot of ideology. You can smell it. It is always the same thing over and over. The left is all about engaging as passionately as possible to a very narrow, rigid set of principles. The rich take advantage of the poor. Social freedoms. Identity politics. There is this element on the right too, particularly on issues like capitalism, free market, libertarianism, Ayn Rand. Once you know these different ideologies you can identify them very quickly and this gives you freedom and independence of thought. You can listen to any radio, watch any commentary - you are in control. Another real advantage is to have intellectually embraced both the left and the right philosophies at different points in your life. Really read up on them, experienced them for a number of years.
