Can you think of any living saints?

There was a time not so long ago when names like Mother Teresa, Padre Pio or Sister Lucia would come to mind.

But who is there now?

I wouldn’t even want to make a guess.

A lot of people have seemed like possible candidates and then they majorly went off the rails.

The most saintly person I have ever met is Bishop Milan Lach of the Ruthenian Eparchy of Parma. The first time I met him, the sense of holiness around him nearly took my breath away.

Fr Lazarus el Anthony also comes to mind.

Mother Angelica is the most recent one who comes to my mind. (I know she’s deceased, but only for a few years now.)

Also, Pope Benedict XVI.

But who is there now?

A lot of people. But just like saints of the past, we won’t know who they are until Heaven. They live quiet, ordinary, unpublicized lives of holiness.

I think you missed the part about saints who come to mind. One of the important aspects of canonization is to furnish examples.

So I can only ask again, who comes to mind now? Who is so obviously saintly that you don’t even have to search the recesses of your memory?
