Can you wear Rosary beads?

I wear rosary beads under my shirt as i like to keep god close to my heart and i pray many times a day but when i see other wearing rosary beads over their clothes , i see it as disrespectful because they wear it as jewellery… Am i wrong , am i a hypocrite. Please i hope you can answer this quick question
