Canadian Anglican Catholic group votes to unite with Rome

Vancouver, Canada, Jul 28, 2010 / 01:10 am (CNA).- With “overwhelming support,” a recent meeting of leaders in the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada (ACCC) voted to unite with the Roman Catholic Church through the Apostolic Constitution created by Pope Benedict XVI.

The ACCC, part of the Continuing Anglican Movement, is made up of more than two dozen congregations. Its Eighth Provincial Synod and Thirteenth Diocesan Synod were held simultaneously at the Rosemary Heights Retreat Center in Surrey, British Columbia.

Bringing Anglicans back into the fold may in time turn out to be one of the many crowning achievements of Benedict XVI’s pontificate.

This is indeed great news, and just to make sure I understand correctly, are ALL of the Anglican communities in Canada now apart of the Church? Because that’s what it sounds like, but sometimes I misread things and just want to be sure.

i doubt it, it seems more like a small group did so, relatively speaking, still great news though.

Wikipedia says it was the third largest group of Anglicans in Canada after the Anglican Church in North America and the Anglican Catholic Church

Thanks. I admit that I am not as well-versed in the various Anglican factions. I generally understood that in the U.S. Traditional Anglicans have split from the Episcopalian community due to a liberalizing of teachings on abortion, sexual morality, etc. I do know of a few U.S. Anglican parishes in commune with Rome.

I know that there has been a divide in the Anglican communion in Canada since the acceptance of same-sex marriage. Parishes split from the national Anglican church and joined dioceses in South America. I can’t tell from the article if those are the parishes that are now looking to become Roman Catholic.
