A Catholic MP who was denied communion by his priest for supporting same-sex marriage, says his faith has been used as a “political football” and his young family has stopped attending mass altogether as a result.

Charlie Angus, the New Democratic MP for Timmins-James Bay, says his parish priest, who also heads the campaign against same-sex marriage in his diocese, threatened to limit his privileges at church if he did not toe the church’s line on the issue.

He says Rev. John Lemire made it clear several months ago that he would be refused communion at St. Patrick’s Church in Cobalt if he supported the federal government’s same-sex marriage legislation, which passed in the House of Commons last week and is now before the Senate. . . .

Charlie Angus and Celina Symmonds had their lives turned upside down when they were told by their parish priests that they could no longer take communion because their stands on social issues conflicted with church teachings.

Good. If supporting sin and perversion is more important to this man than the Body and Blood of Christ, well it’s apparent how seriously he takes his faith.

How in the world did it come to this? A tiny minority engaged in deviant behavior able to separate someone from their faith? I am just apalled.

"Then your involvement in the sacraments becomes a political pressure point. It was unacceptable.’’
How about the miltancy of the language and ACTIONS against the Church. Expect the priest and his bishop to be arrested for “hate” crimes.

Pity that he didn’t stick to that intent. I guess politics corrupts rather rapidly.
