Feb. 2 is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Other folks call it Candlemas, where a priest blesses candles for use throughout the year. I’ve read that, traditionally, candles, are brought by the faithful for blessing at Candlemas, and that they’re lit during thunder to ward off storms.

Do you have a similar practice? What else do you do with the candles?

A priest here once said that they may also be lit when praying for special intentions. I remember lighting one of the candles and saying a prayer when my eldest daughter was taking her licensure board exams. The candle remained lit until her exams were over.

I use them for the Blessing of Throats on St Blaise Day. 👍

Yes. Keeping them at home and burning them in times of celebration or distress is perfectly appropriate.

We light candles for our nightly prayers and generally use the candles blessed on the feast.
