It’s also the reason why groundhog day is the day after Candlemass. Amazing how Catholic culture influences our secular culture in ways we don’t always realize. All those people who “observe” groundhog day are actually indirectly celebrating a Catholic feast day without realizing it!

My EF oratory celebrated with a High Mass last night. It was absolutely beautiful and makes me really appreciate the FSSP priests who always seem to go the extra mile for us.🙂
 
Candlemas is also a day of thanksgiving for the institutes of consecrated life. (I only found this out yesterday!) This is because the Gospel reading includes the testimony of Simeon (Luke 2:25-35) and Anna (Luke 2:36-38), both of whom had dedicated their lives to service of the Lord.
