What is the purpose of candles (many available at your local supermarket or discount store). I am sure you know the ones I am referring to-glass with Jesus, Mary, or a saint depicted on them.

Lighting a candle is a form of prayer. When there is a specific saint depicted on the candle the prayer is directed to them.
