I just wanted to talk my opinion at this. As a guy that is becoming more and more religious, and openly seeking God, I just wanted to say that after about 2 years of smoking cannabis, directly resulting in my thinking more and more about the meaning of life, stumbled upon Catholicism and Christianity.

I agree with a lot of Catholicism, except for when it comes to this plant.
I used to drink a lot, and lose my mind but when it comes to cannabis, my mind became more introverted and ask questions about life. I understand that Rastafari believe it to be the tree of life, from Garden of Eden. Which when thought about, is an extremely beautiful thought. This being said, it is the only plant that is found all over the world, originally.

My belief is that, it should be a sacrament and holy thing to do and should be a rare thing, to bring you closer to God. The bad thing is, it is illegal. For whatever reason. I see a rise in atheism, resulting from that. Criminals become wealthy from it, which is truly wrong.
Anyway, I’m not Catholic, although I wish to be. And I know a lot of people are against it, from the Pope. I would have to research that more clearly, but I take a shortcut in asking your opinions.

Honestly, If it were legal, I dont think the Church would have much against it. Also, if it were legal…I would smoke it!😛

I think there’s some kind of corruption and evil against it, within politics and atheist society. But what this is, we won’t know. I am of the opinion it can bring you closer to God and a peace of mind, but supporting organised crime like that, letting drug dealers profit in that way, I wish wasn’t the case.
And it’s just something else to become dependent on.

well he was wrong
it is a plant found commonly as it grows as a weed in many parts of the world
it is a drug that has psychotropic effects, which means it imparts the illusion that one’s thoughts are becoming deeper, more introverted, wise and insightful. That feeling is rapidly found to be false when you listen to how stupid people sound in what they say under the drug’s influence. Listen to the music of my generation, which one now sees makes sense only to someone who is high. The term “deadhead” was developed for a reason.

don’t mistake the effects of a drug which can cause permanent brain damage–and don’t argue with me I came of age in the 60s and am one of those who had to clean up after these people–with some kind of supernatural enlightenment.

Continue to learn about the Church and seek holiness.

God Bless,
M

😊 Me too.

I am such an anxious person, I am on meds, struggle daily just to make it, I pray, just got back from Adoration, which the Lord really spoke to me about a few things…but I just really would like a smoke once in awhile…not a daily occurrence, just once a week.

maybe I am being too honest, but I miss smoking occasionally. I wasn’t a head or anything, just enjoyed…

Haven’t smoked since becoming Catholic.

Marijuana does not and CAN NOT cause brain damage because it is a non-toxic substance. Alcohol is a toxic substance that kills brain cells, hence the term “intoxicated”. Marijuana is not an intoxicant. It tickles certain receptors in the brain while one is under the influence and then abates, leaving no lasting or permanent effects.

I actually used to encourage my friends with anxiety disorders to smoke. It helps them. We have legalized it for medical use in michigan. But since the advent of spice, I have encouraged them to use this as an alternative, because it is legal in all 50 states. Have you looked into this as an alternative? Its a sage plant that is very similar to mary jane. 🙂

Actually they have found out last year that pot actually grows more brain cells. If not abused it can be very theraputic with people who have certain anxiety disorders, cancer, gloucoma, ETC. 👍

I’m not sure what spice is… There used be an incence thing called Spice Gold, but it used to leave me with panic attacks and then it got made illegal. There is no subsitute for cannabis in my opinion. Everything else is just wrong.

Wrong.
The Times:
Images taken using a new scanning technique provide evidence that cannabis disrupts the brain’s electrical signals in the same way as in schizophrenia.

The findings add to growing evidence the drug may be a significant cause of mental illness in adolescents and a possible trigger for schizophrenia in those who are genetically vulnerable.

Previous studies have examined patients’ behaviour and medical histories. This is the first time direct evidence of a link has been found inside the brain.

“What we saw should cause alarm because the type of damage in cannabis smokers’ brains was exactly the same as in those with schizophrenia and in exactly the same place in the brain,” said Dr Manzar Ashtari, associate professor of radiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Her research was presented last week to the Radiological Society of North America in Chicago.

Ashtari added: “To me, this is proof of the damage cannabis can do and it is shown up graphically for the first time. All the research by psychiatrists so far has strongly suggested cannabis-smoking youngsters run a higher risk of developing psychotic behaviour. Now we have extremely strong evidence that shows what damage has been done.”

You cannot use language as scientific fact. The word intoxicated doesn’t just refer to alcohol.

Wow! I hadn’t seen this study 👍

Hum, my hubby would have panic attacks on m.j. I told him never, ever to smoke it again around me! LOL, so he hasn’t. I on the other hand, feel less anxious and paranoid.

I may have to check out this alternative anyway.

whatever, I tell you I live with these people and spent years of my life dealing with the messes they left for other people. If they were not brain damaged then they better come up with another excuse.

You are both naive and ignorant if you think you can dope regularly and not pay the price, or worse yet, put the burden on other to pay the price.

If you are now using illegally you are personally morally responsible and bear the guilt for drug violence now ravaging Mexico and making life here on our border, in our towns, increasingly dangerous.

Just be sure you buy it from a legitimate source. Also, I have heard different things about it. I personally think pot is better for a person as pain killer, than the narchtics the doctors push, and for some people It is better for anxiety than the stuff the docs push. In moderation of course. Over doing anything can be bad. 🙂

How did you figure that out when cannabis is proven to increase anxiety?

Also, how do you find a legitimate source when it’s against the law?
For young users, marijuana can lead to increased anxiety, panic attacks, depression and other mental health problems. For those already prone to depression or anxiety attacks, marijuana use may accelerate or exacerbate problems.
The United Kingdom Department of Health acknowledged in January, 2004 that cannabis is an “important causal factor” in mental illness. A spokesman for the Department said that “There is medical clinical evidence now that there is an important causal factor between cannabis use and schizophrenia—not the only factor, but an important causal factor. That is the common consensus among the medical fraternity.”3
A British mental health organization, Rethink, reported that “there had been a 60% increase in people who had smoked (cannabis) and had mental problems in the last five years.4
A study conducted by Maastricht University (Netherlands) and published in the British Medical Journal reported that frequent cannabis use during adolescence and young adulthood raises the risk of psychotic symptoms later in life.5

And you still haven’t see the “study”.

Just because an anonymous user on an internet forum says there is a study does not mean there is such a thing.

The user must provide links to the study or journal articles about it to prove such a thing.

Until that happens what they say about such a “study” is worth about as much as garbage.
