The children at my church are having their first communion ceremony on the day the two popes become saints! How awesome is that?! They can look back on that day and think to themselves “my First Communion was the day JP II became a saint.”

Except they mislead the reader by implying that John XXIII put the Mass in vernacular. By his Apostolic Constitution several month before the council John XXIII wrote Veterum Sapientia, which effectively banned (mutable) vernaculars in the liturgy.

He wrote that before Vatican II, because there were those who were saying the Mass in their own native tongue, without Vatican approval.

Of course Vatican II, which he called for, allowed the vernacular to be used in the Sacred Liturgy.
