Canonization process for saints?

I was wondering if you all could tell me the process of a person’s canonization?

I have been more curious about it especially since Pope John Paul II was declared a saint last spring.

I didn’t know if this was the correct forum to post.

Again, forgive me if I don’t use the correct terminilogy.
