Coming up on 10weeks and my morning sickness is gradually getting worse week by week.

Yesterday I was admitted to the ER for severe dehydration and stomach flu symptoms (to put it nicely). My poor hubby is up with me all night every night as we sit in the bathroom waiting for the next wave of sickness. My stomach is in continous pain, an odd bubbling feeling and my midwife won’t prescribe anything to stop the diarrhea as her OB’s don’t believe they are not benefical during pregnancy.

I’m scared, exhausted and sick, and unable to drink even one glass of water a day without bringing it back up, or eat anything without starting the diarrhea off again.

I feel like a terrible mother… 😦 Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Sorry for complaining!

I am so sorry, Full of Thought.

It sounds like you have two problems, though. When I was pregnant with my first, I had horrible nausea (have with all my babies) and I also got an intestinal virus. The pregnant mama’s bowels are unfortunately very vulnerable to intestinal viruses. 🤷 that is why preggos are cautioned so much about watching out for what we eat and whom we are around.

I ended up in the ER, too, with IVs for half a day. It was so scary. I was afraid of losing the baby. They did continuous monitoring with fetal monitors, except when I was glued to the toilet while also puking in the trash can!

Saying a prayer for you, dear. Hang in there. Do whatever the doctors tell you. If your midwife isn’t helping enough, call your family doctor or go back to the hospital. They cannot let this continue. If they can’t help, find someone who can.

I know you are struggling emotionally, too. You are a good mom. Rest and pray. You are already doing everything you can to nurture the life growing in your womb.

Saying prayers for you and your little one!

It might not be morning sickness, You might have something else there that the doctors probably don’t see… if that’s the case.

If I am wrong about the intestinal virus, sorry. :o

Do they plan to admit you again soon if this doesn’t resolve?

Don’t wanna cross the line into medical advice, have none to offer anyway. I am just so worried for you!

Thank you. How did they find out you had that??

In your position I’d be suspecting that morning sickness isn’t the only or even the basic problem. My own ‘hidden’ problem was that I had auto-immune reactions to wheat.

Love and prayers for you and your husband.
May the Lord guide your medical carers.
And our dear Lord please give our sister ease and recovery.

Vomiting, diarrhea, couldn’t even keep water down…these were the symptoms of an intestinal virus. My husband also had it. So did many other people in our town.
That particular virus was nasty, too, with a horrible metallic smell in the, erm, emitted fluids. 😉

Do the anti-nausea pills not help? When I was preg. with twins, those were a godsend.

If it’s that bad, I’m guessing you could have a virus or something more going on 😦 I hope it passes soon, or they find a fix for you!

Have you tried a second consultation with a different OB?

Most midwives have a connection with a doctor. Go see the doctor.

Update: On my third day of stay in hospital, have hyperemesis as many of you suggested and a GI infection too, as the rest of you suggested.

Hooked up on an IV for hydration and drugs and today I had a bowl of chicken broth- first meal in a week!

So grateful for all your support and encouragement getting me to the dr!
Thank you!

Also, heard little baby’s heartbeat for the for the time! BREATH TAKING!!

:hug1:

I wondered if it was hyperemesis, when I read that. I’m scared to death of getting that myself, now that I find myself pregnant, since it runs in my family like crazy.

But, if it’s any comfort, my Mom was hospitalized twice for it, when she was carrying me, and we both turned out just fine!!! 👍

Good luck!!!

:clapping: Awwwwww…I will never forget hearing my sons’ heartbeats. It’s one of the most awesome events in the world. I mean, you know you’re pregnant, but suddenly…there he/she is, a real life, with a heartbeat thumping away. Next up is feeling your baby MOVE!!!

I am very glad you are getting treatment in hospital and are recovering! I had terrible nausea with both my sons and with the first one, panicked because I was sure the baby would be affected. The nutritionist I went to told me that the baby would get everything it needed from my body and that I shouldn’t worry. I worried anyway, but once the nausea went away, I ate like a fiend and gained 50 lbs. I wouldn’t recommend that!

I just wanted to commiserate. I had hyperemesis with my first. I was hospitalized for a week and got down to 84 lbs. I looked like a Holocaust victim. My own mother kept hinting that should get an abortion, even, because she was afraid I was dying. One day I threw up 34 times. I ended up highly medicated–I took ginger, vitamin B6, Zofran, and Phenergan every day and still threw up several times a day. It finally started tapering off in month 5, and my DD was born weighing 6lbs 8oz–small, but healthy. With my 2nd, I started taking Zofran as soon as I found out I was pregnant. The morning sickness was bad this time, but not hyperemesis-bad. It went away during the 3rd month, too.

With my first, I tried every single home remedy you can find, and not one really worked. With the second, home remedies were a lot more helpful, but I attribute the comparative mildness of the illness to the fact that I began treating it with Zofran before it got out of hand. I’m really into natural pregnancy/birth, but when it comes to hyperemesis, I have decided to continue using the big guns with any future pregnancies.

You’re in my prayers!

Wow, that’s no fun. 😦

Yeah, I required Zofran to survive my pregnancies as well… I always lost weight during the first trimester due to excessive vomiting. With my 3rd and 4th children I threw up every single day of the entire pregnancies… no fun.

Prayer for you!

This was me too – it certainly makes being joyful difficult. Prayers for you Full of Thought! :hug1:

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to give an update. I ended up being hospitialized for a week due to severe dehydration and hyperemesis… been home a few days now and feel so much better, able to eat and drink! Coming up on 12 weeks and so hoping that my symptoms will decrease a lot once we reach the second trimester.

At one point I genuinely thought I wouldn’t be able to get through this pregnancy, terrible what weakness and exhaustion can make you think!!

Thank you for all of your support and prayers!!

Glad you’re feeling better! Take one day at a time and know it definitely won’t last once that baby is out! 😃 (not sure if that helps or hurts! :p)…
You’ll make it… and that little baby will make all those bad pregnancy memories disappear… BELIEVE ME… I’ve repeated it a few times now despite daily sickness. 👍

I know this post is old.

If your planning to have another baby you could get sick again

Rare but dangerous- hyperemesis gravidarum. WWW.helpher.org is a great website
