I’m a new Catholic, Confirmed two weeks ago, and I have been in mortal sin for um, almost two weeks. I can’t get myself to go to Confession!! Every time I resolve to go I have to wait around for hours to actually get time to go and by that time I have talked myself out of it for whatever reason. Deep down I really want to go so I can participate in Holy Communion but it is like there is a block. I don’t know what is going on.

Any similiar experiences?

Thanks,

James

I know that in the past, the longer I put it off, the worse I felt. I know it can be tough, but you need to make yourself go. You will feel so much better if you do, and most importantly, will be able to receive the Holy Eucharist!!!

Please also keep in mind that if one dies in a state of mortal sin, that’s it. No heaven, no purgatory…you know what that leaves. 😦
Not trying to scare you, but if that’s what it takes to get you to go, so be it.

**Jesus is waiting for you in the confessional because He loves you and wants to heal you – accept that gift NOW! ** ❤️

Praying for you. God bless.

Pray asking for resolve to go to confession. You can either go to the regular confession times at a parish or call a priest and schedule an appointment with a priest. Satan is trying to prevent you from having your sins forgiven. Don’t let him have any power. Get to confession and be made new. Lastly, if you are embarrassed, don’t be. We all sin and the priest has heard every sin before. The more you go to confession the easier it gets. I will pray for you.

God Bless,
Matt

Here’s what ya do.

JUST DO IT! No whining. No squirming. No excuses. You’re allowed to sweat and tremble if you need to but facing down your reluctance is part of the process.

Play the man!

Here are some questions, James - ask yourself but no need to answer them here.
Is there something within you that you’re not saying? Do you find other activities preferable to scheduling Confession? You don’t have to tell it - just ask yourself.
Or - are you scrupulous? I have been a good part of my life, and it’s torture, so I understand the putting-off theories.

Or - are you just being human? You want to get to Confession but if timing doesn’t fit in with other schedules - you find other activities preferable and then beat yourself up after. Is it a block or just putting other things first?

Some of these issues we all wrestle with. I’m guessing, without knowing you, it’s possibly just a matter of what we’re all faced with - the temptation of doing what we want to first instead of putting first things first. 😉 🙂

Don’t know if it helps any, but you can go and confess behind the screen rather than face to face. Might take some of the pressure off. Regardless…do it. You won’t regret it. I walked around for years with mortal sin on my soul. In some ways, it helped to keep me away from the Church. Finally, I swallowed my pride, laid it all out there for the priest to hear and after I performed my penance, I felt incredible. Just Do It.

I honestly don’t know what it is. It’s like, I resolve in the morning to go at the end of the day and by that time I have convinced myself that God doesn’t want me to go because it’s not a genuine confession. I mean, it only took me two days after Confirmation to commit a sin I had swore to leave behind, am I not being a little abusive of the Sacrament to expect absolution?

OK. That’s one of the bad guy’s dumbest tricks. Just get your carcass into that confessional and DO it. There isn’t a Christian on the planet who does not struggle with SOME sin that they just keep falling into. Right now, mine is CAF! But I have an appointment with my confessor tomorrow. He’ll cross his eyeballs and give me that, “not again?” look. (Actually he NEVER gives me that look.)

Although continually confessing the same sin may be presumption, it can also be a sign of hope and perseverance. And some sins are harder to leave behind than others. NOT confessing mortal sin is just plain STUPID!

Whining, squirming, and avoiding it constitutes conduct unbecoming of an soldier in the Army of Christ.

I think we’ve all been here (I know I have!). If we were successful in leaving behind all our sin, we wouldn’t need the sacraments, wouldn’t need Jesus…but this is where the amazing mercy of God comes in. He gives us second, third, fourth chances…😉

Don’t let satan get into your head. He’s happy you’re staying away from the confessional, because he knows how powerful the sacrament is.

The following is part of the “Conversation of the Merciful God with a Despairing Soul” found in the Diary of St. Faustina (see my signature for information – I highly recommend reading the Diary!!):
From the Conversation of the Merciful God with a Despairing Soul:
Jesus: What joy fills My Heart when you return to Me. Because you are weak, I take you in My arms and carry you to the home of My Father.
Soul: (as if awakening, asks fearfully): Is it possible that there is yet mercy for me?
Jesus: There is, My child. You have a special claim on My mercy. Let it act in your poor soul; let the rays of grace enter your soul; they bring with them light, warmth, and life.
Soul: But fear fills me at the thought of my sins, and this terrible fear moves me to doubt Your goodness.
Jesus: My child, all your sins have not wounded My Heart as painfully as your present lack of trust does - that after so many efforts of My love and mercy, you should still doubt My goodness…Tell Me all, My child, hide nothing from Me because My loving Heart, the Heart of Your Best Friend is listening to you."
He’s waiting for you, and His mercy is so much bigger than your sin. You can do it. ❤️ :hug1:

Dear d_Floyd -

I’m seeing some great replies - and all of them, right on!
You’re a new soul won over to Our Lord - so you may encounter battles of temptation. But when God is on your side who can be against you? (rough quote from “The Ten Commandments”) Follow the great advice you’ve gotten - and remember that the Mercy of God is boundless - you just need to ask - He loves you !

I think you need to get to confession as fast as you can, you don’t want to die with a mortal sin on your soul.

Please don’t let fear or pride get in the way, Jesus is waiting for you to come back. We fall and He helps us get up again.🙂

Blessings

I don’t know of anyone who actually enjoys laying their faults bare to a priest, but the feeling of relief after is a good one.

How about going to a parish where you do not know the priest? Sometimes that is easier. I know it probably shouldn’t be, but sometimes it is.

Dear Brother Floyd, First I would like to thank you for being an example of a real Catholic, because you are truthful and refuse to recieve the Body and Blood of Our Dear Lord Jesus Christ with a mortal sin on your soul. There are many Catholics that walk right up to the Altar loaded with Sin,and open there mouths like a bird, and think nothing of it. You have gotten so much great advice on this thread, and were all praying that you have the courage to beat anything that blocks your way to recieving Our Lord. May Jesus,Mary and Joseph help to break those chains that bind you, Robert Charbel
