I have a problem with getting distracted too and some days I just can’t concentrate. One thing I have found helpful is going for a walk and saying the rosary. I go outside with my rosary in my pocket and mumble to myself and go down the path. I find if I am doing something else physical it helps me focus.

Another thing I do is meditate on the mystery briefly first and then recite the decade. My final suggestion is to keep up the pace. Try to pray the Rosary quickly, in fifteen to twenty minutes for the whole thing.

I saw a saying on the back of a teeshirt someone was wearing that seemed good for many situations including the rosary:

“Just do it.”

Your problem sounds a lot like mine… distraction, distraction, distraction.

However around some big holydays it seems to be better. I think God eases up on the break pedal for me during those times.

What I expect from the rosary is the wrong thing…consolations. It really is about effort, effort, effort. For the more effort we put into it, the less work God has to do. It isn’t about success at all, but rather our intention to please our dear Lord.

May the Good Shepherd fill you with peace.

I am a cradle Catholic that started praying the Rosary about 10 years ago. When I first started praying the Rosary I, too, had a problem staying focused on the various mysteries while I was praying.

After about a month of praying the Rosary, I decided that I was going to give up praying the Rosary altogether. I decided that I would tell Our Blessed Mother in prayer that the Rosary was just not the devotion for me. I began telling Our Blessed Mother this while I was driving on the Garden State Parkway. As soon as I began my prayer, a car passed me and then pulled directly in front of me. The guy that passed me was close enough to me that I could read what was written on the bumper sticker on the back of his car. The words on that bumper sticker were: “Pray the Rosary.”

I have prayed the Rosary almost every day since then. I still get distracted at times, but I won’t quit this devotion that I have come to love.

I am also praying the rosary daily…but I am also having health issues…and its really painful…and saying the rosary is harder b/c I feel a lot ofpain…so I tend to not say it well…but I am trying…should I continue? …even though I am this way…I want to continue with my daily rosary…

Yes! Keep up your rosary! Take it in smaller sections if needed. There’s nothing wrong with praying a decade here and there throughout the day that add up to a full rosary. 🙂
