Following is something I wonder about Satan. Hasn’t Christianity, by publishing the Book of Revelation, told Satan exactly what is to come? If I were the ultimate embodiment of evil, I’d be planning an alternative course to one that has me thrown into the Lake of Fire. Surely he has free will and the intelligence to do other than what John prophesied.

Of course Satan knows what Revelation says. He quoted Scripture to Jesus, didn’t he? He’s not ignorant of its contents, and he probably knows what it all means- but he continues in his rebellion out of pride.

Revelation says. He quo
What about the book of Enoch? Compare this with Enoch 1:9, translated from the Ethiopic (found also in Qumran scroll 4Q204=4QEnochc ar, col I 16–18):[12]
And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His Saints To execute judgment upon all, And to destroy all the ungodly: And to convict all flesh Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed, And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.

How does this differ from Jewish text on this subject?
Malachi 4:5 (Malachi 4:6 And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse.")
Behold I will send you Elias the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

And, We shall ascribe holiness to this day. For it is awesome and terrible. Your kingship is exalted upon it. Your throne is established in mercy. You are enthroned upon it in truth. In truth You are the judge, The exhorter, the all‑knowing, the witness, He who inscribes and seals, Remembering all that is forgotten. You open the book of remembrance*

Which proclaims itself, And the seal of each person is there. The great shofar is sounded, a still small voice is heard.

The angels are dismayed, they are seized by fear and trembling. As they proclaim: Behold the Day of Judgment! For all the hosts of heaven are brought for judgment.

But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, f but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 23

Satan knows the Bible cover to cover. The name of Jesus has demons flee.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
Lord, make Your Word sealed in our hearts.
In Jesus name.
Amen

I can’t speak for angelic intelligence, but o have seen plenty of people try to do things that are futile and they even know are futile, so I guess maybe it’s not too much of a stretch.

And it’s not like the devil has anything to lose by trying.

Fr. Ripperger says that angelic free will was locked at the moment of creation, and they are either perpetually fixed to do good or to do evil.

Even though Satan knows he will fail, he wants to bring as many souls down with him as possible.

Mm, angelic free will was locked at the moment of creation?

It was my understanding that the angels were created first, in a state of grace. Then they were given information about their roles and the Will of the Creator, and had the free will to accept or rebel. I had thought much of the kicker was about Mankind, which would be a reasoning creature but not nearly as awesome as they were, and the fact that the Second Person of the Trinity would lower himself lower than the angels to assume their nature (regardless of whether there had been a Fall or not), and they would have to acknowledge him as God and Man. And that part was the part that the fallen angel objected to— to be required to Serve not just God, but also these bumbling little nobodies who were the People of God, and also especially the Woman. And they were aware of their future chastisement should they decide to rebel. Self love, envy, and covetousness of gifts they didn’t happen to possess but were present in others, led to disobedience and infidelity. Cue the Battle, etc, etc, etc.

But the point being, the angels were created in a State of Grace. Obviously, they exist inside of Eternity, so it’s not like “this much time passed before the next thing happened”, but you had the Angels in a State of Grace at the moment of their creation, because you had to start with Lucifer being the brightest of the angels and blessed by God with lots of graces, right? And then they had their own process of choosing to serve God, vs cultivating dissatisfaction with God’s will, or even wishing pridefully to take God’s place and acquire all the admiration and worship due to God, before finally, rebellion happened. Then at that point, their wills were fixed.

Satan knows his fate very well. So his plan is to drag as many souls as possible into the lake of fire with him.

Angels, including Satan, have free will, but their will is locked when they make a decision. They were not created with the Beatific Vision. They had to freely choose self or God. Those who chose self are locked into that decision. There is no basis for an angel to change his mind. There is no new information.

What I meant is that they had free will, in a state of grace, and once they chose evil, there’s no turning back from it. Satan isn’t going to seek absolution from his sins.

I made it up… of course. That’s how I get my best stuff. 😎

Here’s a thought: Jesus told Peter that he would deny Him three times. Peter denied it, only to fulfill the prophecy anyways.

Whom else is better to listen to than me? I’m always right and I never disagree. I highly recommend it. 😎

And it’s not like the devil has anything to lose by trying.
Hmm, not 100% sure. Did Satan merit the sum total of his eternal punishment at his moment of rebellion, or is he able to add to it by continuing to sin until the final judgement?
