Here is one funny example from the Douay-Rheims:

Psalm 1:3 (Project Gutenberg)
And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running
waters, which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season. And his leaf
shall not fall off: and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.

Sadly the free Project Gutenberg text is corrupted in many other parts - whole verses are often missing.
 
Seems to me that the Project Gutenberg verse is rendered more grammatically correct than the second one cited.
 
How does one “do whosoever”? In more modern parlance it could have several meanings. None of them nice. :confused:
 
drbo isn’t perfect either, I’ve found typos before (major ones that effect meaning) but don’t have any examples on hand. Apparently the Challoner version included with vulsearch is based off a text that was heavily proofread, but the website it was ripped from is no longer online.

Yes. It seems to have the same errors.

Knowing what’s actually involved in transcribing a book from printed page to computer, I’d bet that all the currently available online versions of the DR are based on one original transcription of the 1899 John Murphy printing.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Baronius reprint is based on the same file - heavily proofread hopefully. (I keep forgetting to check my copy for things like psalm 1:3)

I’ll have to check my Challoner when I get home, but if “whosoever” is in fact an error, then you’re probably right - as far as I know, the Douay Rheims Bible Project was the first to try to put the Challoner online. The original site isn’t up any more, but it’s still available here, and has this exact same wording in Psalms.

Gutenberg transcribed stuff themselves back in those days, I think.

It said “whosoever” when I originally posted this topic.

My copy of the Baronius reprint says “whatsoever”. A+ 👍

“whosoever” is very much an error Fred.

Seemed likely, but the bible has many mysteries, so didn’t want to call it before I checked. Then I got home and remembered I have one of those Challoner Confraternity hybrids with the Benziger Psalms, so I wouldn’t be able to tell anyway 🤷
