I think I need a reality check.
My parish music director recently (with the pastor’s support) put into effect new policies regarding cantors. Among these are a lot of good things such as a requirement to attend rehearsals and parish cantor workshops. But one thing that has me a bit upset is a requirement to take voice lessons on a weekly basis at the cantor’s own expense. Voice lessons are not inexpensive, and while I would like to take them, they just aren’t in the monetary budget or the time budget right now, especially since both my wife and I were serving in this ministry.
Maybe I’m just upset that this means I can no longer serve in that capacity. But I’m curious to hear folks’ thoughts…
