Canvas Shoes in Church-Pastor or Bishop?

It has come to my attention that there is nothing in the GIRM allowing the faithful to wear canvas shoes in Church. Yet, I see this happen all the time at my Parish, especially in the summer, but no one does anything about it. Should I report this problem to my Pastor or to the Bishop?
 
Um, why do you see it as a problem?

And just because the GIRM doesn’t mention an article of clothing does not mean it’s forbidden to wear it.
 
There’s nothing in the GIRM allowing the faithful to wear polished combat boots, either, but one of my former pastors did, all the time.

Hey, at least they were black. 🙂

Do you have a more substantial question to concern your bishop with, or is this the extent of your worries with the Church?
 
Canvas shoes? What’s wrong with canvas shoes? Not everyone can afford or even wear leather shoes. 🤷

Absolutely not - unless you just want to give them a really good laugh so that you can brighten their day.

My pastor makes the ‘what not to wear to Mass on Sundays’ in the beginning of the warm weather season every year. He asks the women to dress modestly, the men to not wear shorts or bermudas or basketball outfits to Mass and he asks us all not to wear flip flops. However, sandals and tennis shoes are ok.

I have RA…there are very few shoes I can wear anymore. If I had to wear flip flops because of the state of my feet my Pastor would not ‘report’ me or chastise me.
 
Ummmm - as far as I know, there is not Vatican document on shoe constuction 🙂

Only green canvas shoes should be allowed in the summer. And only the proper shade of liturgical green.

Nothing in the GIRM allowing one to wear shoes at all!, If I were you I would personally fly to Rome, get an Apt with the Pope and see if you can get any pastor who allows this abomination burnt at the stake!!!
 
Canvas shoes for Pastor or Bishop - perhaps they may have an arch, heel, or other issue which dictates that type of footwear so that they continue to serve Christ in the proper manner.
 
Let’s see - one of our priests has to wear special shoes since he is diabetic. One lives in boat shoes. Me - I love my Reeboks, but for church I usually change them for sandals.

What about the Franciscan Friars? They always wear sandals. If it’s ok for them, it should be ok for anybody.

Really cheap running shoes - if your mother took you to the lake or the ocean when you were a child, you probably wore them to keep the stones on the beach from hurting your feet.

I agree with the person who says they should match the liturgical colours, if worn at Mass. (And yes, that means PINK on Laudate Sunday!! 😛 )

If one can afford to do so, I would think that people should not (wear canvas shoes). We are after all, Meeting the Lord.

In some churches I’ve been to, that problem doesn’t exist because people remove their shoes before entering the church.

My parents, who grew up in the 1940’s, said that altar boys were required to wear canvas shoes when serving Mass back then. They wore the only kind of athletic shoes made, Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars.

Ai yi, how different. 🙂 Shoes in the sanctuary is a big no-no where I come from.
