Yes there is…at the same time the smugglers are doing it for money…not for any humanitarian reason…some of the asylum seekers have drowned on the open seas

If it’s a crime then whatever jurisdiction they’re in when caught has the right to prosecute according to their law. Still, it’s not quite the same thing as drug smuggling unless they are making wage slaves out of the asylum seekers, and even then that’s not as morally bad. Anyone who sets out in a small boat on the open sea is taking a huge risk. Asylum seekers who are that desperate shouldn’t be victimized, I agree. But if they are in Australian waters, the punishment is up to Australia.
