Cappuccino machine?

Is there such a thing as a reasonably priced, well made cappuccino machine?

I’d love to have one for Christmas, but they’re so expensive.

Don’t know, but a typical steam pressure espresso machine has a frothing tip for the milk. If you take the right amount of milk and do the frothing right (the right time, the right temperature, the right moves of the wrist…), you can get vast amounts of milk foam. 😃

Alternatively, there are those couple-buck battery-powered blenders (unless they call them frothers… and some manufacturers call them latte whips, lol). Using one of those I’ve once been able to create a thick white two-inch layer of milk froth that “stood” on perfectly black coffee without falling in. However, the froth they make is more like what you’d use in a cake. And it’s cold compared to the froth from the espresso machine.

DeLonghi makes several that are under $300, with one at $99. It’s actually billed as an espresso maker-- but it makes espresso, coffee, cappuccino, and hot chocolate.

Here’s the $99 DeLonghi appliance.

Here’s a different model that’s $199 at Target.

I was thinking around $100. Thanks for the links. TheA combo machine (drip coffee and espresso/ cappuccino) would be nice.

Well, you could do like Italians do and get one of these for about $20:

It won’t make a cappucino because there is not frothing wand, but it makes very good espresso if you use good coffee. I like latte’s better anyway, so I just heat up my milk and add it to my espresso.

Even if you don’t want to buy it there, I always like to go and look at Amazon to see what people say about the different models. It’s nice because there are a lot of people who will take the time to write exactly what they love or hate about the various models.

We have one of these and we love it! For another 20 bucks you can buy a little hand-pump milk frother.
 
I’ve had two different DeLonghi models of machines, but could never master the art of “frothing” the milk. I just quit trying and eventually got rid of them because they take up too much room on my counter.

We used to have one of those and may still, for all I know. (we moved 2 yrs ago and got rid of lots of things) If we still have it, maybe I’ll ask dh for a frother. If we don’t have it, I found a set on amazon.

Hey KCT–

If you’re still interested in a machine, Macy’s is having a Web Buster sale today (Black Friday) and there are a BUNCH of espresso/cappuccino machines on sale for 40% off-- DeLonghi, Brevil, Cuisinart, etc.
 
this is so lame but I cheat, make the strong coffee or buy a blend intended for expresso, froth the milk with the little whisk sold in Mexican grocery stores for hot chocolate and pour the coffee in. the whisk cost about a dollar. Obviously if I thought I would be using this for entertaining i would consider the machine, esp. one that grinds the beans, but hardly worth it for a cup at a time.
 
I asked dh for a Bialetti set - stove top espresso maker and milk frother 👍 . —KCT
