Anyone here seen it yet? What did you think?
My not at all biased opinion? It was spectacular.
I’m usually pretty lukewarm about the Marvel movies. They’re decent and I enjoy them, but I’ve never really loved any of them. Most of them I’ve found pretty forgettable. Not this one. This was the first time I can honest to goodness say I loved a superhero movie.
It was so good. The writing, the story, the characters…it’s all so well done. Darn near perfect. I can almost always find some flaw in a movie, even ones I really enjoy, but I can’t do that here. Nothing was wasted, not even a line of dialogue. This was a superhero conflict done right.
I won’t give away any spoilers, but I’m just going to say, there’s a moment at the climax where it really looks like one character is going to kill the other, and even though I “knew” in the back of my mind it wasn’t going to happen, my immediate reaction was to wince and hold my breath, because it seemed so possible! That’s how the whole movie is. It sells the conflict so well, you forget that there’s going to be other movies in the series.
This movie was everything BvS should have been. It was dark, but not grim. There was emotion, but it was earned. Cap and Iron Man’s conflict is so…personal. And the best part? The movie doesn’t side with either one! Cap has had ideological disagreements with people before, and the movie usually ends up vindicating him, but that doesn’t happen here. Neither is completely right, neither is wrong, and that makes it so much more painful. Especially since it’s also not just a matter that could be solved by communication. Each one makes the decision they make because of their past experiences. You feel like there was no other way the story could have gone, which is a sign of a solid script.
Anyways, I could talk a lot more about this but I probably should stop. Seriously though, go see this movie!
