I own a 2012 Ford Focus and have owned it a little over a year. It was a certified Honda dealer used car. Other than the battery, it’s been a great car!
There has always been a slight shudder when starting off because of the transmission and what kind it is. It’s an automatic, but it has a dual clutch. So it’s more like a manual, but it shifts automatically. After some research it appeared that the shudder was normal because of the transmission.
This past Friday my transmission started banging through the gears a bit. However, I drove it where I had to go and then it sat till this morning when I brought my kids to their mom’s.
Basically, it would skip second gear and go to third, then wouldn’t go into the highest gear keeping the needle above 3500 rpms. When going into the gears that it would it would bang and jerk the car. I got to their mom’s home, turned the car off and was in there for about twenty minutes so I could give their mom her allergy shot. Go on my way and the car is fine, but it is still shuddering more so than it did.
I dropped it off at the dealership and they are supposed to look at it tomorrow. There is a extended warranty for this model year and beyond transmission. However, it is only a couple things that are covered and not all issues are covered.
So, I am lucky that I have my tax refund coming this week, but that was going to pay off bills and have a little savings. Paying for a transmission repair was not even a remote idea.
Now onto work. I called my direct supervisor, who wasn’t happy that I called on Sunday, to explain to him what happened and how the PTO works when you do not give three days notice. He wasn’t sure and said to email him the request and he would forward it to whomever makes the decision. I am hoping that I can use my PTO, but the company is weird in how they do PTO. My supervisor is apparently sure I will be back on Wednesday as I mentioned that out of my three PTO days I only had two left and that Wednesday would be a non-PTO day. If it ends up being an all week thing (I only work three days a week consecutive days Mon-Wednesday) I have no way to get there. I go in so early in the morning and my partner who lives no where near me as well, that there are no other co-workers to pick me up. The next crew to come in is three hours from the time we clock in. I also have no money for a rental car.
That has been my day so far!
