Cardinal Arinze was in Detroit this morning, discussing the liturgy. Was anyone from Catholic.com there? If so, how about throwing in some good discussion points. Out of a sell-out crowd of 750, I figure there must have been people from Catholic.com at this event.

I was glad to hear him talk about the need for gestures in our worship, in particular kneeling and bowing. He also discussed sitting, processing, standing, but focused heavily on kneeling and genuflection.

The GIRM calls for all of these things and he really hit the point home by reminding us that it is our Creator that we stand before. We ought to be willing to crawl to Him, or to prostrate ourselves before Him. We should not be afraid to kneel or genuflect before the tabernacle, when we see the light.

I’m sure a few in the audience were probably wanting to say…

“But, your Eminence, the tabernacle at my Church is in a side room!”

It gives new meaning to “Where have they put my Lord”

I will have a series of posts going up on my blog - perhaps only 2 or 3, depending on how other pictures came out.

Here is a direct link to the first one, with an additional pic. Use the home page in my sig to check for more.

I listened to part of it on Radio. I think I am going to try to get the CD if it is possible.

PF

I think the CD was only $15.00. I’ll be posting contact info on my blog.

If I were a certain auxiliary bishop from that city, I would be quaking in my boots at the mention of Arinze’s name.:bigyikes:

I have the utmost respect for the Cardinal. I listen to his Podcast regularly and highly recommend it. I just wish I knew how to find out where he is speaking and when.

My hubby left the house at 5:00am to set up.
Were you there Diane?

I loved that the Cardinal gave a special blessing to the workers (my girls helped make sure there was holy cards on every table so they were blessed as well) Did you get a cross? I wanted one but they were quickly snapped up!

How about his answer to the Holding Hands and Orans question? I loved that he stated what was in the GIRM and basically said, what is there is right. The Priest is given the Orans instruction.
He then stated that he had bigger things to worry about. Which is true.

Where you there?
Of course - how do you think I got the picture? (hehehehe).

Go to my blog for another. I’ll be posting more in the coming days so keep checking back. I have to go easy with blog time in order to focus on other work.

Got to shake his hand when he extended it as he passed my chair just seconds after I snapped two pictures of him, including the one above.

I did not take one of the crosses as someone else already wanted ot buy the one at my table. I also did not have room for it in my tiny condo.

You are soooo blessed.
We could set up but couldn’t afford the tickets. Oh well, sometimes God gives us what we want and sometimes He just gives us a job to do!

Well, the good news is that you can buy the VHS or DVD, and it would be worth it. I think the DVD was 25. Contact Barbara M’s name over at St. Cyrils is on the form. They’ll probably also have the forms on tables there.

I think he might have been in Venezuela, apologizing for our president, the devil… 😃

Perhaps you mean a certain retired auxiliary bishop (Deo Gratias)
What exactly is the difference in this case?

I do so enjoy how much you all continue to try to scrape the sacrament of holy orders off of Bishop Gumbleton.

I’m going to noon Holy Mass today so I’m sure that there will be forms in the back.

We should have set up a tape to record the Ave Maria broadcast.

Well, retired bishops do not have a vote in the USSCB for one.

That alone is worth it.

From the picture posted by the OP, I would have to say, he must have felt right at home in Detroit. I uised to live at Knodell and Gratiot. Attended school and church at Patronage of St. Joseph parish. Is it still there?

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is holding a liturgy seminar in a few weeks…maybe Cardinal Arinze could drop in. If any bunch is in desperate need of a kick in the liturgical pants, they are.

I would love to be a fly on the wall on the day that Cardinal Arinze visits Los Angeles. I once attended that infamous religious educators’ conference, and after hearing so much abject heresy on the part of many presenters, I found myself hanging out with the “protesters” outside who were handing out orthodox Catholic CDs and booklets. The Archdiocese called the police to remove us, but the cops told them that we were on public property and they couldn’t stop us.

Unfortunately there are many who will continue to turn a deaf ear to this.
