We really don’t know. There are lots of people proffering opinions - most of the experts "missed’ any mention of Cardinal Ratzinger at the last conclave.

Cardinals Burke or Ranjith are the Cardinals I am hoping for - maybe we might get a pleasant surprise.
Oh I so disagree!! Those in the mainstream media sure, because they really just sort of parachuated in for the conclave etc. Which “experts” are you refering to?

But for those who do have real ties, knew Ratzinger was the one most likely. Even going into the conclave, they knew. I know I knew based on the reporting I was hearing.

His homily at JPII funeral on the dictator of relativism pretty much did it for him.

Im not sure what organizations or journalists you are following or listening to. That is significant.

=DeusSalusNostra;10447662]To the fans of Burke’s well known Traditional approach, this may interest you!
I KNOW and love this good and holy man; He’s the HEAD of the Marian Catecheist Lay Apostolate to which I am a member.👍
But it ain’t going to happen! [IMO] I suspect he does not have the worldly experience, views and experiece the Electors will seek? 🤷

Funnily enough Mr Allen failed to list Cardinal Ratzinger in his list of papabile in the run up to conclave.

He did seem to list nearly every other Cardinal 😉

I am in the UK so don’t read the National Catholic Reporter - I have heard lots of bad things about it so I would probably avoid it if in the US anyway.

It is 8 years ago but my impression is that most specialist sources included Cardinal Ratzinger only in long lists…

NC Reporter’s bad rep aside, Allan knows his stuff.

If you read the link I posted, he talks about just how Ratzinger was indeed backed.
EWTN’s Arroyo and the late Fr Neuhaus also reported on how that is pretty much all they were hearing going into the conclave 8 years ago.

I have no idea of what the UK press was saying, but here in the US, although others were mentioned, Ratzinger was very much on those lists as well. 🤷
