I watched 5 minutes in and counted only 20 Cardninals. Considering that there are 119 that can vote, I do not think we can say every other Cardinal kissed his ring.

And, to be honest, is it really a big deal? I mean, really?
Or is this just another attempt to “bad-mouth” another member of the clergy for not meeting our expectations?🤷

What ever happend to seeing our brother in the best possible light?

Of all of the Cardinals, Cardinal Dolan is the only one to not kiss the Pope’s ring. Why? See for yourself at 2:50.
Jet Lag? He met the Pope previously in the day? He was overwhelmed?

Frankly, I’d probably forget how to speak properly if I had the joyous opportunity to greet the pope, and I’m not even Catholic.

That is true about it not being all of the Cardinals. It was just glaring that he was the only one of all the ones I saw that didn’t do it. I am not trying to be uncharitable. I am trying to figure out is it a big deal? I don’t know. That’s why I am asking. I thought with the new rules posted at
catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1300800.htm
that it may be that was the sign of allegiance to the pope.

“One of the most visual changes, he said, would be the restoration of the public “act of obedience” in which each cardinal present at the pope’s inaugural Mass comes forward and offers his allegiance.”

I don’t know you guys correct me if I am reading to much into it.

🤷 Honest mistake? Could he have forgotten due to all the excitement and media present there? Honestly, I get so frustrated with some CAF posters who go about bad-mouthing the clergy and who are using this historic moment to bad-mouth the Cardinals, particularly Dolan. Gossip and malicious speech is sinful.

I sincerely hope that hudson, the OP, isn’t this mean-spirited and wasn’t intentionally bad-mouthing Dolan. :tsktsk:

If we had to choose one Cardinal who would forget to kiss the Ring of the
Fisherman, it would be Dolan. Let’s face it, he’s not a very tightly-wound man.
He’s got a good heart and can be erudite, but is also very “regular guy”.
He’s worn a cheesehead hat during a homily and has appeared with Stephen Colbert.
Even said that if he was chosen to be pope, he would be Stephen III. (in a joke reference to
Colbert). He kissed Colbert’s hand instead of shaking it, he kissed Colbert’s wife
on the cheek and then joked " I can kiss your wife, but you can’t kiss mine".
Not exactly a man of formalities here.

Honestly, do we really think we need to question Cardinal Dolan’s allegiance to the Pope? We may not all agree with all that he does, but I think we should agree that he is obedient to the Pope.

Not sure how I feel about this…I realize that NOT kissing the Papal ring doesn’t necessarily denote overt disrespect for the Holy Office…however…and…ofcourse we don’t know the statistics on how many that greeted His Holiness actually kissed the ring…but…I was privileged to have an audience with Pope Jn Paul II in 2001 and rest assured I genuflected and kissed the ring…how could anyone NOT…feel the need to show some respect…believe me…I support and defend the our clergy daily…and thank our parish priest for his Priesthood each time I go to confession…but on has to wonder…I’m still waiting for some explanation regarding Arch Bishop Dolan presiding at the rededication for St. Francis Xavier Church in Manhattan June 19, 2010…a church that openly supports the homosexual agenda…when I posted a question about it …I was informed something to the effect that …one catches more flies with honey …not sure I’m interested in these flies…I may be banned from the site for posting the question…but…are we not called to question such things…if there is a valid reasonable explanation for his presence , I’;d surely like to hear it…the comments made by the Pastor after Mass, alongwith a few of the parishoners regailing the fact that they could attend Mass here and recieve Holy Communion with their partners really shocked me…NO ONE dislikes homosexuals…but, to openly support the open lifestyle that these individuals profess…just an explanation please …from the Diocese…or some substantive remark/comment from the forum regaring this …or…we could just pretend it;'s not happening…and keep on being jovial and happy…everythings beautiful…

He may have a good reason. Suppose he has contagious respiratory infection right now, and does not want to put an 85 year old at increased risk. It could be anything. How about jet lag, with a lot on his mind? I wouldn’t read anything into it.

Pretty harsh, I was just asking a question. Maybe it should be deleted if it makes people so mad to answer a question.

Please find a longer video to watch – maybe wait for EWTN to post the full video on YouTube. I recorded the meeting with the cardinals today and just rewatched part of it. The first two cardinals didn’t kiss his ring, the next five or six did, then the one after them didn’t, and so on. Even when the Pope left the Apostolic Palace for the final time, several of the cardinals and (arch)bishops only clasped the Pope’s hands rather than kissing his ring. There is no need to read any disrespect or nefarious intent into Cardinal Dolan’s actions.

It’s such a strange thing to point out though. I’m sorry, but it is.

I think this is the Entertainment Tonight factor kicking in.

Our concerns need to be refocussed to what is important.
