Like I said, “Those who neglect the border children are the same as those who neglect the child across the street.”
THIS… stopped… me …in…. my…… tracks…momentarily. Until I remembered the totality of Catholic social justice teaching. Horrible thing, really, that man would use children for political gain. Although I do not at all agree with your assessment that this is only about the two major political parties. It’s much bigger than that and more than just the children will be affected. Btw, some of those “children,” it has been reported, are in their early to late twenties.

Here Cardinal Dolan smears the illegal immigration protesters by likening them to wicked groups of the past.

A week or so ago, I watched with shame as an angry mob in southern California surrounded buses filled with frightened, hungry, homeless immigrants, shaking fists, and shouting for them to “get out!”
It was un-American; it was un-biblical; it was inhumane.
Cardinal Dolan is absolutely right. It is time for everyone, especially Catholics, other Christians and everyone of good will, to be charitable and helpful to these frightened, hungry, homeless immigrants and offer them as much support and aid as possible. As good Christians and people of good will, let us wholeheartedly support our wonderful Cardinal Dolan in his quest to help these impoverished people.

1 Timothy 5:8
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
We are commanded to take care of the homeless and disenfranchised of our own country first.

These migrants will largely be Democratic votes and votes against the Right To Life. Where is your charity there? The studies show this to be so.

You know what happens to these children? They may give an address of where relatives live but those relatives are not in this country legally either and often, when the hearings for these people come, they don’t show up. Billions spent for nothing, billions that could help the poor of America, that could help the homeless.

A thousand billion dollars (one trillion) and more has been spent on recent wars and what did that bring? An Iraqi government which is disliked by the Sunnis and with the result that a whole lot of this spending is now benefiting the ISIS group which is hostile to all Christians and all Americans. Rather than spending all this money on Iraq, Israel, Egypt and other mideastern countries, and letting some of it fall into the hands of ISIS, why not help both the poor Americans and the frightened, hungry, and homeless immigrants? There always seems to be plenty of money to spend on wars and on aid to Israel and other ventures in the mideast and elsewhere.

Maybe the USA can develop it’s own oil more and wouldn’t be involved overseas.

Excuse me, Human Traffickers made a lot of money, some of these kids end up murdered, raped, they were pawns. If illegal immigration is encouraged, more and more come.

How many are enough? 500? 5000? 500,000? 5,000,000? How many are enough? And what about the children in the rest of the world? Is the policy biased towards Latin America?

And for the umpteenth time, let’s remember sanctions placed in the 1990s were according to UNICEF killing 5000 Iraqi children a month.

Again, I myself don’t know the facts on ISIS but I search for facts on it.

Where does the Church teach that? The scripture for Timothy addresses taking care of one’s family. If you read the context, Paul addresses a problem that is common of people having to look to charity from the Church because their immediate family does not help them. It says nothing about one’s countrymen. Here is the paragraph.

Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God. The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help. But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives. Give the people these instructions, so that no one may be open to blame. Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

There have been many threads on this one prior, according to those threads, Catholic Charities is largely reimbursed for their work by the Federal Government.

Catholic Charities is a wonderful organization. It receives a small portion of it’s funding from the Government. In MA it was about %10. Most of their money comes from donor and church collections.

And I am all for Government money being given to such a fiscally responsible and socially beneficial organization which exist in virtually every mid-sized town in the US.

A key and foundational aspect of Church ministry is care for the immigrant- it’s kind of well-established.

There is no precedent for “helping your own first”. The Church works to help everyone and is generous as God the Father is abundantly generous.

I thought we had a law which was preventing volunteers and charities from helping the government care for these people???

We do - IIRC, it’s called the Anti-Deficiency Act which prevents gov’t agencies from taking free services from people or private organizations, because that would allow the agencies to bypass congressional power.

This law is ignored just like the immigration laws. AND is the utmost reason we should all be alarmed. We know what to call the blatant disregard for any legitimate legislation. It has a frightening name, but sleep on, America.

The Bishops also respect people’s rights to vote and voting demographics, the UCSSB has stated so. I don’t think we have an obligation to act against the right to life which is shown how many undocumented immigrants vote.

Thanks. I think I understand. Congress holds the purse strings. If an agency takes funds or services from private citizens, they can bypass congressional power.

UCSSB states:
The second duty is to secure one’s border and enforce the law for the sake of the common good. Sovereign nations have the right to enforce their laws and all persons must respect the legitimate exercise of this right: “Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption.*** Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens***.” Catholic Catechism, 2241.

If open-borders turns the whole USA into a place of high abortion rates such as we already see in California, our duty and right to sovereignty needs to be examined. Again, if these voters are not charitable, I don’t believe we are obliged to act charitably. Catholic Teaching also teaches respect for borders, laws and citizenry.

So, if what you say is true, please explain how an illegal immigrant is a “countryman.” He may be a resident, but in no sense a “countryman” because he is not a citizen. He neither votes (at least we hope not, for that would be fraud), nor does he recite the Pledge of Allegiance, at least taking the words to heart. He is here with no legitimate claim to citizenship, in fact, one could say he has stolen the right of residency. I would consider the poor of America, those who use welfare to survive, the elderly past the age of retirement who still need to work to make ends meet, the unemployed and under-employed, and the school age children whose only meal may be the one provided at lunch, my extended family. (Please check out the stats!.)

Websters definition of countryman:
person from the same country or region as someone else.

synonyms: compatriot, fellow citizen

I am not convinced that high abortion rates are due to illegal immigration. American citizens seem to be aborting on a frequent basis.

I am convinced the Democrats need an underclass, that those who come here via illegal immigration as in California have changed the voting demographics of that state, hence I believe studies that show those immigrating illegally via our Southern Border vote Democratic which means votes beneficial to the abortion industry.

A blue state like California, high abortion rate, a red state like Kansas, a low abortion rate.

Biggest welfare state at the time this article was written at CNBC, California: cnbc.com/id/31910310/page/16 , California, also one of the highest rates of abortion and California, one of the most Democratic states demographics wise. So, if you have a lot of people on welfare, we also have a lot of abortions. California also had their demographics shifted by mass immigration, some of it I believe illegal and the illegals were granted amnesty, not clear of all the facts.

Re-read. I did not say illegal immigrants are countrymen. I am saying the passage proof-texted applies to families, not countrymen. We should take care of our family. Also, the passage does not include the word "first’. That was added by the proof-texting.
