Warning that the Church is being “despoiled of her institutions” as “freedom of conscience and of religion become a memory from a happier past,” Cardinal Francis George of Chicago observes that “the Catholic Church in the United States is being told she must ‘give up’ her health care institutions, her universities and many of her social service organizations.”

Remember the Progressive motto, if it doesn’t come from government, it doesn’t count.

The Progressives want people worshipping the state, not God.

We, as Christians, must remember Christ’s admonishment, “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s…”

What I’m still confused about is that there are laws similar to this in different states, yet Catholic hospitals still operate there (I think there are about 8 or seven states). Or maybe it’s something different. 🤷

I am to understand that some, if not most, of those Catholic hospitals in such states are simply quietly refusing to follow said law, and no law enforcer is taking action to force them to comply because they know there is no case.

In many of those states, there are ways to get around the state mandates, for example, by self-insuring and by using plans which are under ERISA rules exempt from state mandates. The federal HHS mandate offers no such outs. Here is some more info from the USCCB website:

And, in some cases, the institution dropped perscription coverage altogether. Again, that is not an option under the new mandate.
