Cardinal George Pell returns to Rome for first time since acquittal

When he left Rome in 2017, Pell was head of the Vatican’s Secretariat of the Economy which was working on cleaning up the church’s vast finances and eliminating abuse.

His trip to Rome comes just days after a powerful Vatican cardinal, Giovanni Becciu, was fired after Pope Francis accused him of embezzlement and nepotism.

Pell and Becciu were at odds over reform of the Vatican’s accounts.

In a statement sent to the Catholic News Agency on September 26, Pell said: “The Holy Father was elected to clean up Vatican finances. He plays a long game and is to be thanked and congratulated on recent developments.”

“I hope the cleaning of the stables continues in both the Vatican and Victoria,” Pell said. He was charged with child sex abuse in the Australian state of Victoria.


This invitation by Pope Francis is surely a sign that the Cardinal has been exonerated by the Vatican investigation also.

It is also interesting that a very powerful Cardinal has been sacked by the Pope (or asked to reisn) and it is also interesting to read a quip of Cardinal George Pell regarding that.

Did you hear the other news, a Bacchus Marsh based priest, here from India, has just been convicted of sex abuse of a sick parishoner. He gets 12 months jail then deportation.
Bishop Bird/ Archbishop Comensoli will no doubt be issuing a statement today.

I pray the Pope gives us a new Cardinal , as Cardinal Pell is retired nowdays

My totally unsubstantiated opinion is this is the reason he has been called back to the Vatican. It obviously backfired if there is any truth to it, he is a free man.
 
Bolt’s onto it now, watch out! You could say that wasnt 1.1mill well spent.
Bolt is a big supporter of Cardinal Pell, a powerful media ally to have.

As I said on another thread , there is a certain Italian organisation that does not want to see corruption clean up in Rome. Its against their vested interests.
