First a little background:
- Cardinal Newman, although he believed that Papal Infallibility was a true doctrine, strongly opposed it being dogmatically defined by Vatican I.
- The papacy (particularly Papal Infallibility and Universal Ordinary Jurisdiction) is the main area of disagreement between Catholics and Orthodox (along with the Assyrian Church of the East and the PNCC).
- The current policy of the Catholic Church is to admit to communion any Orthodox (or PNCC or Assyrian Christian) who requests communion from a Catholic priest.
