Boston, MA – Cardinal Sean O’Malley is responding to criticism of a Catholic hospital in Boston that some say has agreed to go back on its pro-life policies in a merger that ultimately promotes abortion. Caritas Christi Health Care has been the talk of the pro-life community because of the potential merger fallout.

The details of the deal Caritas has with Centene are not known. The Cardinal has forwarded the matter to the National Catholic Bioethics Center to ensure that Caritas does not materially cooperate with abortion and, I assume, contraception. I will be interested to see what the NCBC says. They are a solid bunch.
